Clyde, Evelyn Stephens Hamilton, age 89, passed away at The Homestead on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Spurgeon and Beulah Crawford Stephens and was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hamilton, who died in 1976; one sister, Jean Lindsey; and two brothers, Harold and Lester Stephens. Evelyn enjoyed baking cakes, gardening, and meeting her friends at Hardees for coffee. She absolutely loved family get-togethers and was a member of Hazelwood Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Patti Schandevel and her husband, Jim, of Clyde; one son, Fred Hamilton and his wife, Judy, of Matthews, North Carolina; two sisters, Sue Thompson of Waynesville and Eloise Stephens of Cullowhee; three brothers, James Stevens, of Waynesville, Wayne Stephens of Cullowhee, and Jerry Stephens of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Lolley officiating. Burial be at Fairview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday prior to service. Memorials may be made to MedWest Hospice and Palliative Care, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
