Evelyn Willis

Canton- Evelyn Blythe Willis, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Kathryn Clark Blythe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Dwight P. "Sonny" Willis and Michael "Doc" Willis; a grandson, Shane Dale Willis; and four brothers, Gerald, Bill, Bob, and Richard Blythe. Evelyn was a member of Rockwood United Methodist Church. She and her husband loved to travel. Evelyn will be best remembered for her cake making abilities. Her cakes were known not only for their delicious flavor but also for their decorative art. She received several blue ribbons for her entries at the Haywood County Fair. Evelyn also had many customers who relied on her to provide the perfect cake for special occasions. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Paul James Willis; a sister, Barbara Henson of Canton; two grandchildren, Tracy Willis and his wife, Jacqueline, and Mandy Early and her husband, Luke, all of Canton; and six great-grandchildren, Peyton, Cobie and Kyla Willis, Colin Willis, Levi and Kamdon Early. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Susan Giles officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A- Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
