Farrell Sanford

May 18, 1932 — July 29, 2015

Waynesville, Farrell Hill Sanford, age 83, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Robert Gilmer and Leola Hill Sanford and was also preceded in death by a brother, Max Sanford. He was a Corporal and veteran of the US Army Corp of Engineers and a retired machinist of the BASF Corporation. Farrell enjoyed gardening, working puzzles, doing projects around the house and staying in touch with co-workers. Farrell loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed sketching and was a history buff, who enjoyed reading about it. Farrell is survived by his wife of 59 years, Stella James Sanford; two daughters, Carole Gaddis of St. Petersburg, Florida and Joan Clark (Bart) of Canton; two sons, Phillip Sanford (Beth) of Marietta, Georgia and Mitchell Sanford (Kim) of Auburn, Georgia; three sisters, Audrey Moore, Jane Lonsway and Lorraine Caldwell; one brother, Leon Sanford; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to the Haywood County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 931, Waynesville, NC 28786.
