Fletcher Kuykendall, Jr.

FLETCHER E. KUYKENDALL, JR.

Waynesville-Fletcher E. Kuykendall, Jr., age 85, of 165 Tar Heel Drive, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at his residence.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Fletcher Kuykendall, Sr. and Ella Mae Ramsey Kuykendall. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Colleen Kuykendall Rathbone, who died in 1995. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 47. He was a former supervisor at Unagusta Furniture Company, where he worked 39 years before his retirement in 1979. After his retirement from Unagusta, he was a self-employed commercial mower for Blue Ridge Paper Products for 23 years. He was a founding member of Hazelwood Presbyterian Church and a former volunteer fireman for the Hazelwood Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ethel J. Kuykendall; a son; Rickey Kuykendall, and his wife, Dianne, of Newman, Georgia; a son-in-law, Stan Rathbone and his wife, Shirley, of Church Hill, Tennessee; a sister, Edna Pitts, of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Tammy Hines and her husband, Stacey, Paula Blair Kuykendall, Lisa Davis, Rickey Kuykendall, Jr. and his wife, Wendy, and Dana Cox and her husband, Tony; twelve great-grandchildren; and two nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2002 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesville. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service, and at other times, at the residence.
