Maggie Valley, Florence Rita McKillop Scott, age 84, of 2085 Laurel Ridge Road, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at her residence. A native of Long Island, New York, she was the daughter of the late John Alexander and Catherine MacInnis McKillop. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Scott, who died in 2012; three sisters, Sarah Dziubaniuk, Catherine Manion, and Mary Sebring; and two brothers, Francis and Daniel McKillop. To those who knew Florence "Faye" best knew her to be a naturally gifted artist though she worked in several businesses, realty, modeling, restaurant, and office administration in the Boston area before moving to the South in the 70's to become a full-time homemaker. Her later years were plagued by various illnesses but she held fast to a genuine spunky sense of humor. She and her husband, moved to the mountains of North Carolina to be near her daughter, Vickie, son-in-law, Ted, and grandson, Justin, in the latter part of her life. They were joined by Florence's sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Al Sebring. "Her journey has not been easy, but her faith never faltered and her heart never surrendered." Having grown up a Roman Catholic, one of the highlights of her life was a trip she made to the Center and memorial for an ancestor, Blessed Mary MacKillop in Sydney, Australia. This journey was upon the death of a special aunt, Mrs. Florence (Leo) Tracey of Massachusetts and Nova Scotia to honor her. There she became better acquainted with the now Saint's life, and she and Mr. Scott were welcomed with a "tea" and gracious reception. She continued her correspondence with her new friend, Sister Anne Marie Power, RST, throughout the years. "Mary of the Cross" was beatified and became the first Saint of Australia on October 17, 2010. With the kind support of Dr. Pass and MedWest Hospice, Florence passed away at the home of her daughter, honored by the loving help with care-giving of Mrs. Eva Lee Shepard, a dear family friend, and a niece, Barbara Marion Russo, whose loving compassion beautifully represented our family up north. And, we were all surrounded by the steadfast loyalty of our Uncle Al Sebring of Waynesville. Florence is survived by one daughter, Victoria Canelli Moll, of Maggie Valley; one sister, Margaret Clarkson of Massachusetts; one sister-in-law, Shirley L'amoreaux, also of Massachusetts; one brother, John D. McKillop and his wife, Felicia, of New Hampshire; one brother-in-law, Al Sebring, of Waynesville; and one grandson, Justin Scott Moll and his wife, Jennifer. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
