Canton-Floy Pearl Haney Cordell, age 88, of the Newfound community died Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at Memorial Mission Hospital Campus. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a daughter of the late P. R. and Minnie Williams Haney. She was the wife of the late Cecil T. Cordell who died in 1987 and was also preceded in death by a son, Troy L. Cordell, 2 sisters, Novie Gibson and Nita Stamey and a brother, Ralph Haney. She was a member of Canton Wesleyan Church. Floy was a devout Christian who loved her family and friends. She gave unselfishly of her time and generosity to those in need. She loved her flower garden and is now with her heavenly father in his glorious flower garden. Her family wishes to express their heart felt gratitude to the staff of the Owen Heart Center at Mission Hospitals for their genuine care and concern when it was so greatly needed. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Ponder and Rose Mary Smith and her husband Roy, all of Mt. Holly, NC a daughter-n-law, Jane Cordell of Candler, one son, Don Cordell and his wife Brenda of Canton, three sisters, Ethel Brock of Cleveland, SC, Oles Cordell of Candler and Hazel Christopher of Canton, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2004 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services. Reverend Terry W. Penland will officiate. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
