Floyd Fulbright

April 5, 1924 — July 11, 2016

"1924 – 2016" Clyde – Floyd Fulbright, 92, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016 at his home. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Hardy Talmadge and Polly Hicks Fulbright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Bramlett Fulbright, who died in 1975; a granddaughter, Sarah L. Page; two brothers; five sisters; and one son-in-law. Floyd was a United States Navy veteran of World War II serving in the armed guard aboard the SS Cushing Eelis; SS Pere Marquett; and the SS Bull Run. Floyd began his career with the Haywood County Sheriff's Department as a special deputy in 1963. He became a full time sworn officer in 1973 serving until 2008 having served as Deputy Sheriff and then a Detention Officer. Floyd was a former member of the Clyde Lions Club as well as having served as a member of the Clyde Volunteer Fire Department in the 1950's. He served as a scout master with the Boy Scouts of America and retired with 35 years of service from American Enka. He is survived by a daughter, Debra Page of Clyde; one son, Tim Fulbright and his wife, Cheryl, of Clyde; three sisters, Aileen Cathey and husband, Jim, Carolyn McElroy and husband, Edgar, and Hazel Fulbright, all of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Adam Page and wife, Jennifer, Tashina Fulbright, and Jessica Gibson and husband, Nicholas; four great-grandchildren, Madison and Meredith Page, Gavin and Adelina Gibson; and his faithful dog, "Coco" and his cat "Wildcat". Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Our Savior Lutheran Church with the Reverend Paul Burdette officiating. Burial will follow at Fulbright Cemetery with honors conducted by the Haywood County Sheriff's Department. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Page, William Kucza, Randall Dills, Joey Bradburn, Josh Parton, Nicholas Gibson, and Danny McElroy. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of the arrangements.
