Folsom Messer

Waynesville-Folsom Leatherwood Messer, 96, formerly of the Crabtree Community, died on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. A native of Haywood County, daughter of the late L.B. and Leona Caldwell Leatherwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Messer who died in 1999; one daughter, Jackie Sue Rogers, one brother, Hugh Leatherwood and one great-grandchild, Emma Caroline Jett. She graduated from Cullowhee Normal School, and was a member Waynesville First Baptist Church. Ms. Messer served on the Haywood County Library Board for twenty-three years and she was the Last Living Charter member of the Waynesville Book Club which was established in 1935. She was a member of the Smokey Mountain Duplicate Bridge Club and received her Gold Life Master Certificate. Ms. Messer played bridge in the last six months and won! She is survived by one son, Charles E. Messer, and his wife Daisy, of Crabtree; one sister, Mary Lou Moody, of Winston Salem, NC; six grandchildren, Charles Jack Rogers, and his wife Dedra, of Greenville, SC, Mary Caroline Rogers Guy, and her husband, Darrell, of Atlanta, GA, Barbara Sue Parker, and her husband, Greg, of Crabtree, Jenny Jett, and her husband, Andy, of Fayetteville, AK, Judy Stewart, and her husband Andy, of Louisville, KY, Dan Messer, and his wife, Lisa, of Crabtree; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley and Morgan Rogers, Blane Parker, Madeline Jett, Katie and Emily Stewart, Daniel and Tucker Messer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Crabtree United Methodist Church with Reverend Kathleen McAbee officiating. A eulogy will be delivered by her granddaughter, Barbara Sue Parker. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Garden. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Greg Parker, Andy Jett, Andy Stewart, Dan Messer, Darrell Guy and Jack Rogers.
