Clyde-Frances Bishop Best, age 84, formerly of Clyde, died Sunday, August 29, 2004 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. She was a native of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Ada Smith Bishop. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Best, who died in 1967; three sisters, Ethel Arrington, Clara Gavitt, and Eva Queen; and two brothers, Herschel and Bill Bishop. She was a retired nursing assistant with Britthaven of Clyde and was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Best McCracken and her husband, Troy Lee of Crabtree; her son, Charles Ray Best of Fines Creek; four sisters, Anna Bell Apple of Reidsville, Lucille McGuirt of Charlotte, Pauline Davis of Crabtree, and Geraldine Tedder of Walkertown, NC; a brother, Jack Bishop of Charlotte; 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with the Reverend Alan Davis, Reverend Kitty Crain, and Reverend Charlie Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Cemetery. The grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the services, at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of the daughter, 101 Lazy Hollow Drive, Upper Crabtree.
