Waynesville - Frances Chandler Payne of 92 Franklin Street went to be with Jesus on Saturday, August 7, 2004, her 88th birthday. She was a native of Madison County and lived most of her life in Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Sam and Mary Ann Watkins Chandler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Payne, who died in 1985 and two sisters, Sallie K. Roberts and Leta Plemmons. She was of the Baptist faith and a faithful Christian who witnessed to everyone around her. She is survived by two sisters, Inis Sluder and her husband, Bob, of Candler and Mary Hoover and her husband, Jimmy, of Union, SC; two brothers, Fredrick Chandler of Waynesville and John Chandler and his wife, Eva, of Franklin and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2004 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Reverend Elijah Fish, Reverend Chan Chandler, Reverend Jack Presnell and Reverend Chad Chandler officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Crooked Ridge Cemetery in the Big Pine Community of Madison County.
