Frances Gunter

"Loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother" Waynesville, Frances Massie Gunter, age 86, passed away on Sunday, March 09, 2014 at MedWest Haywood. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Jonas Boague and Annie Wilson Massie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Ray Gunter, who died in 1996; two grandsons, Andy and Randy Anderson; one great-granddaughter, Holly Williams; and one sister, Nettie Rogers. She was a former employee of Wellco and a volunteer at Haywood Christian Ministries. Frances was a charter member of Grandview Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and canning. She was a wonderful woman of faith who always put her family first. She is survived by a daughter, Lois Swecker, of Canton; three sons, Jonas Gunter and his wife, Joyce, of Canton, Jackie Gunter and Johnny Gunter and his wife, Cheryl, all of Waynesville; one sister, Betty Arrington, of Waynesville; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Cagle and husband, Lee, Jonas Gunter and wife, Sandra, Laura Thayer, Pete Messer, Crystal Williams and husband, Darrell, Chastity Gunter, and Laura Gunter and fiancé, Dewayne Jones; and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Grandview Baptist Church with Reverend Jack Roberts, Pastor Mark Golden, and Reverend Terry Stockman officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Branch Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Dewayne Jones, Pete Messer, Bill Holbrook, Michael Rogers, Clint Mull, and Doug Branch. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the church and at other times, at the home of Laura Gunter, 852 Lickstone Road.
