Clyde – Frances Gidney Hannah, age 86, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Memorial Mission Hospital.
A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Weldon and Margaret Davis Gidney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Hannah, who died in 2015; two infant sons; a brother, Charles Gidney; and a nephew, Eric Wells. Frances was employed with Haywood County Schools as a Business teacher at Tuscola High school before retiring with 30 years of service. After retiring, she volunteered at Haywood Regional Medical Center. Frances and her husband, Charles owned and operated Handy Hannah’s store in Clyde. She was a member of Waynesville First United Methodist Church.
Frances is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Lee Hannah of Candler; a son, William Jeffrey Hannah (Margaret) of Raleigh; two sisters, Dorotha June “Dot” Wells and Margaret Ann Terrell (Bill) all of Canton and a grandson, Jessy Leland Hannah of Raleigh.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with the Reverend Keith Turman and Reverend Becky Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road.
