Waynesville-Frances Spake Leatherwood, age 96, of Church Street, went home to be with her Lord Friday, November 30, 2007 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Chicago, IL and had lived in Haywood County for the past sixteen years moving here from Greenville, SC where she had lived most of her life. She was the daughter of the late John and Lottie Johnson Salrin and the wife of George Elmer Spake who died in 1976 and Charles Leatherwood who died in 1992. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Ann Mabrey, a son, George Spake, a granddaughter, Lisa Guyton; a grandson, David Spake and a brother and a sister. Frances was a caregiver and a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading the Bible and visiting friends. She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Bowen and her husband, James of Charlotte, two sons, Bill Spake and his wife, Millie of Waynesville; Jerry Spake and his wife, Kathy of Simpsonville, SC; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one step-son, four step-daughters including Robbie Jones and special friends, Oletha and Frank Carnett and Louise Davis. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2007 at Calvary Road Baptist Church with Reverend J.D. Grant, Reverend John H. Swanger, III and Dr. Bill Pate officiating. The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve and Pat Brogan, Greg, Wesley and Randall Spake and Jarrod Mabrey.
