Francis J. Busteed, Jr. (Frank), 91, of Waynesville, North Carolina passed away peacefully on May 28, 2024, at his home. Frank was born March 13, 1933, to Francis Joseph Busteed and Loretta McGonigle Busteed in Scranton, PA.
A graduate of Canisius High School and Canisius College, Frank went on to study law at Georgetown University Law School, (Class of 1957). He was admitted to the practice of law in the District of Columbia and the State of New York. Frank was a successful trial attorney and the managing partner for the law firm of Brown, Maloney, Gallup, Roach and Busteed, PC. Frank was a past president of the Erie County Trial Lawyers Association, past Director of the Erie County Bar Association and an active alumnus for Canisius College. He would tell anyone that his most satisfying achievement as an attorney was serving as the town attorney for Orchard Park where he was instrumental in making Orchard Park be the home of the Buffalo Bills. He remained until his death a lifelong Bills fan.
After retiring from the practice of law, Frank embarked on his “second act” as a successful real estate developer in Hilton Head Island, Charleston (Fox Pond) and Kiawah Island
In 2008 Frank retired to the mountains of North Carolina and enjoyed still dabbling in real estate development, weekly tennis matches, volunteering (serving as a Guardians ad Litem with the family court and with prison ministries), reading, building model airplanes and walking his various rescue dogs.
Frank was predeceased by the mother of his five children (Joan C. Busteed) and his parents.
He is survived by his wife Carol Busteed and children; James F. Busteed, Mary Busteed Roe, Kathleen M. Chapman, Anne Marie Ugarte, Lt. Colonel Michael. P. Busteed; his sister Ann Olk, eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2024, at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church with Rev. Dr. W. Becket Soule, OP officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Canisius High School, 1180 Delaware Ave, Buffalo, NY 14209.
The care of Mr. Busteed has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes of Waynesville
