Francisco Fanego, Jr.

Frank Javier Fanego, Jr., 55, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Havana, Cuba, he was the son of the late Francisco Javier Fanego, Sr. and Bertha Marrero Fanego. Frank was a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War where he served at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sargent. He enjoyed having campfire gatherings with his family, flying his model airplane, and rebuilding muscle cars. Frank constantly provided tactful solutions to any challenge facing him or his family. He is survived by his wife and soul mate of 37 years, Diane Fonteciella Fanego; beloved protector and provider of one daughter, Kristin Fanego of Chapel Hill; and two sons, Frank Fanego III and his wife, Arlyn Alarcon, of Miami, Florida, and Nick Fanego of Canton; loyal brother of one sister, Iris Fernandez and her husband, Juan, of Waynesville; one granddaughter, Valentina Fanego; uncle to two nephews, Brian Fernandez and Andrew Garcia; and Scotty, his Jack Russell puppy.
