Frank Chambers

March 9, 1932 — June 19, 2003

Bethel-Frank Chambers, age 71, of 4848 Old River Road left from his home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 19, 2003, surrounded by his loving family after a very courageous battle with cancer.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a son of the late O.C. (Pete) Chambers, Sr. and Etta Smathers Chambers. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Pless Phelps, Lucy June Vetitoe and Reba Chambers; and one brother, Bill Chambers.

He retired from Southern Bell Telephone Co. which later became Bellsouth with 44 years of service as the senior outside plant technician for the nine state regions in 1995. After that he worked five more years with Progressive Telephone Engineering. He was a 1950 graduate of Bethel High School and was a United States Army Veteran serving in engineering. Also, he was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and the Telephone Pioneers.

In addition to his wife of 51 years, Kathryn Rhinehart Chambers, he is survived by a daughter, Kay Chambers and a son Kevin Chambers and his wife Vicki and their son K.C. Chambers, Frank's beloved grandson all of Bethel; three brothers, Dick Chambers and O.C. Chambers Jr. of Cruso, Elwood Chambers of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral services will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, Sunday afternoon, June 22, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend's Roy Kilby, Willard Pless and Bobby (Hoot) Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the Piney Grove Cemetery in Stamey Cove. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, June 21, 2003 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Homes of Canton.Pall Bearers will be J.M. Long, Paul Erwin, Henson Long, Bill Holbrook, Barry Cogburn, Harold Henson, Roy Cogburn and Avery Dean Crawford.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Piney Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund in Stamey Cove, % Rikki Rogers, 144 Stillwater Drive, Waynesville, NC 28786 or to Bethel Baptist Church, 5868 Pigeon Road, Canton, NC 28716.
