Frank Clontz

March 29, 1921 — January 13, 2007

Frank J. Clontz, age 85, died Saturday, January 13, 2007 at his home in Canton. He was the son of the late Otis J. and Maude Nelson Clontz. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Virginia Shepard Clontz and his brother E. Nelson Clontz. Mr. Clontz retired from Champion International Corporation in 1983, after 44 years of service. At his retirement he was Manager of the Materials Department. The life long values which he lived by were learned from his parents and from the Boy Scouts of America, where he was an Eagle Scout with three Palms. He was also a "Charter Member" of Tsali Lodge, Order of the Arrow. Mr. Clontz was a US Army Veteran of World War II serving with Headquarters, Fifth Army in North Africa and Italy. Mr. Clontz is survived by his son, Robert J. Clontz and his wife, Genni; four grandchildren, John Clontz and his wife, Cheryl, Sara Jeanne Monson and her husband, Gene, Kristi Outlaw and her husband, Joey Robinson and Kelli Crowe and her husband, Gary; and four great grandchildren, Cameron Tyler Clontz, Shelby Kenner Clontz , Madison Noel Crowe and Wesley A. Robinson. Memorial services in celebration of Frank's life will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2007, at the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Canton with the Reverend David Christy officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford - Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Bill and Freddie Clontz, Tony Graham, Tom Reno, Tom Orr and Gene Monson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gudger Palmer, Hall B. Whitworth, Dan Reno, Joe Soboslai, Bob Washam and George Abbott. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Mr. Clontz's honor may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 LeRoy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721; Daniel Boone Council Boy Scouts of America, 333 W. Haywood St., Asheville, NC 28801; Salvation Army, P.O. Box 358, Waynesville, NC 28786; or Central United Methodist Church of Canton Building Fund, P.O. Box 792, Canton, NC 28716.
