Frank Muse

Candler – William Frank Muse, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center in Candler. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Jesse and Lucille Johnson Muse. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Martha Plemmons and two brothers, Wiley and Max Muse. He was a United States Navy Veteran during WWII and received three battle stars. He retired from American Enka Corporation as a machinist. Frank adored living in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina and spending time outdoors was where he was happiest. He was an avid hunter, enjoying all varieties of hunting. Frank devoted much of his time to civic groups and helping his community. He was a dedicated member of the Candler Lions Club, and the Hominy Valley Wildlife Club and served 35 years on the Enka Credit Union Board of Directors and was a member of Enka Baptist Church. Frank will be remembered as never having met a stranger, always friendly to everyone he met and was dedicated and loyal to his family. As one of the oldest members of "The Greatest Generation" he will truly be missed. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Edith Henson Muse; a daughter, Frankie Jean Battle and her husband, Thomas, of Candler; two grandchildren, Thomas G. Battle (Erica) of Candler; Lisa Brittian (Thomas) of Asheville; six great-grandchildren, Christina Tiegs, Kim Evans, William Claybrook, Thomas Battle and Christopher and Michael Brittian and three great-great- grandchildren, Sam, Noah and Jude. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Enka Baptist Church with the Reverend Ron Brown and Reverend Chris Reece officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. Serving as pallbearers will be Tom and Thomas Battle, Tom, Chris and Michael Brittian and Steve Henson. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Enka Baptist Church, P.O. Box 219, Enka, NC 28728.
