Loving Father and Grandfather Candler – Franklin Delano Shepard, age 76, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Mission Hospitals – Memorial Campus. A native of Franklin, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Norman and Lelia Hall Shepard. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Lillian Warren Shepard, who died November 15, 2009; and a daughter, Lavonda Shepard Christopher, who died October 8, 2012. He was a United States Army veteran and retired from Champion International as Bark Boiler Head Fireman with 34 years of service. He loved to garden and especially liked growing tomatoes and corn. He enjoyed driving and seeing our beautiful country. Frank loved life and was happiest outside in the summertime, rocking away in his swing, eating a hot dog and sharing it with his dogs. He was known to be funny, proud, and honest. Frank was a Good Person, a Good Husband, and a Good Dad. He is loved and is missed more than words can ever convey. He is survived by a daughter, Karen Lachelle Shepard of Candler; a son-in-law, Lee Christopher of Canton; a grandson, Jonathan Christopher; a sister, Nina Shepard Saine of Asheville; a brother, Glen Shepard and his wife, Christine, of Marietta, South Carolina; plus his beloved K-9 companions, Jade, Bella, and Lily. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Glen Shepard officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
