Fred Covington Barfield, 77, of Asheville died Monday, May 24, 2021 at Pisgah Manor. A native of Marietta, GA, he was son of the late Ralph and Bertha Mae Covington Barfield. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother.
Mr. Barfield served in the US Army reserves. He retired as a supervisor in 1994 from the City of Atlanta Water Department after 30 years of service. The Barfields moved to Asheville in 1997.
He was a volunteer with A.B.C.C.M. as well as served as a volunteer firefighter with the Enka Fire Department. He was a member of Acton United Methodist Church.
His survivors include his wife of 40 years, Norma Ellington Barfield; son, Terry Brigman & his wife, Michelle of Myrtle Beach, SC and two grandchildren, Reagan and Travis Brigman.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p .m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Acton United Methodist Church, 171 Sand Hill Road, Candler, NC 28715. The Reverends Bob Kretzu and Joe Yelton will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to A.B.C.C.M., 20 Twentieth Street, Asheville, NC 28806.
The care of Mr. Barfield has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler
