Fred Galloway

May 24, 1922 — May 19, 2005

Waynesville-Fred G. Galloway, age 82, of Asbury Road, died Thursday, May 19, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Stephen Wiley and Viola Davis Galloway. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Ann Carswell Galloway, who died in 1989. He was an Army veteran of World War II and he retired in 1985 from Champion Paper with 35 years of employment. He was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church where he held many offices in the church. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Alma Best Galloway; a daughter, Sue Culpepper and her husband, Jim, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; a son, Kenneth Galloway and his wife, Nancy, of Gig Harbor, WA; two stepdaughters, Susan Bell and her husband, Reverend Richard Bell, of Erie, PA and Marcia Taylor and her husband, Reverend Wayne Taylor of Cable, OH; two stepsons, Jim Best and his wife, Valene, of Elkin Park, PA and Stewart Best and his wife, Joyce, of Hollywood, FL; a sister, Evelyn Galloway Chambers of Canton; two brothers, Davis Galloway and his wife, Virginia, of Waynesville and Roy Lee Galloway and his wife, Linda, of Newport, TN; two grandchildren, Rex Culpepper of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and Dr. Perry Montsinger and her husband, Kevin, of Burgaw, NC; five step granddaughters, Jessica and Elizabeth Best and Kristine, Chelsia, and Tiffany Bell; three step grandsons, Darrell Best, Jr., Chris and Brian Hassinger; and one great grandchild, Morgan Price, of Little River, NC. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2005 at Dellwood Baptist Church with Reverend Wayne Willet, Reverend Jason Ledford, and Reverend G. W. Jameson officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday prior to the services at the church, and at other times, the family will be at the residence. Deacons of the church will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be given to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
