Fred Hendrix

April 13, 1915 — March 25, 2003

Canton-Fred Elwood Hendrix-87, of 81 Queentown Road died Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

He was a native of Buncombe County and was the son of the late Walter H. and Cora Lee Ingle Hendrix. He was the husband of the late Nova Florence Stamey Hendrix who died in 2000 and was also preceded in death by a grandson, James Rhea who died in 1992. He retired from Champion International with 40 years of service and was a member of Canton First Baptist Church. He was a past member of Sunny Point Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and served on the building and grounds committee.

He is survived by two daughters, Peggy Ann Conard and her husband, Forrest and Freddie Jane Rhea and her husband Jim, all of Canton, one sister, Berta Carpenter, 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2003 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Cecil Fox officiating. Burial will follow at Sunny Point Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Green, Matthew Rhea, Ronnie Allen, Tim Kelley, Anthony Kirchhoff, Jeremy Clark, Jason Tilley and Andrew Green.

Memorials may be made to Sunny Point Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 132 Sunny Point Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
