Fred Medford

Clyde- Fred Lane Medford age 94 of Broad Street died Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late Roy Lane and Essie Walker Medford. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline Medford Rogers, Lena Mae Medford Rogers, Janice Medford McCann and a brother, Jack Walker Medford. He was employed with American Enka for 35 years and a member of Clyde First Baptist Church since 1951. Mr. Medford was a charter member of the Clyde Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for 25 years. He also participated in organizing Cruso and Crabtree-Ironduff Fire Departments. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Pauline Davis Medford; two daughters, Nina M. Hall and her husband Ronald of Greer, SC and Joretta M. Starr of Waynesville; a special nephew, Carl M. Jones; five grandchildren, Rhonda H. Cartee of Greer, SC, Dr. John Lane Hall of Pacifica, CA, Sandra R. Sutton of Prattville, AL, Susan R. Gregory of Waynesville and Shelley R. Higgins of Leicester and five great-grandchildren, Anna, Lindsay, Elizabeth, Matthew and Brandon. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2005 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with the Reverend James Parham and Reverend James Langford officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Gene Messer, Ricky Gregory, Brooks Medford, Jim Davis, Bill Davis and Dane Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be the Clyde Fire Department.
