Fred H. Moody, Sr. Waynesville-Fred Henry Moody, Sr. 85, of Sims Circle died Monday, December 13, 2004 at the Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood Count, he was the son of the late Henry E. and Molly McElroy Moody and was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Girleen Cogdill Moody who died August 13, 2004 and three sisters, Annabelle, Helen and Georgia Mae and a brother, Joe. He was an Air Force Veteran of WWII. He and his wife were the first houseparent of the Hawthorn Heights. He was the former director of the Haywood Adult Day Care and he was a member of the Hazelwood Baptist Church where he served as deacon and was a member of the Brock Sunday school class. He is survived by a daughter, Jan McMahan and her husband Bobby of Sylva, two sons, Roy Moody and his wife Gail of Atlanta, GA and Fred H. Moody, Jr. and his wife Ruth of Bryson City, five grandchildren, Fred Henry Moody, III of Ames, IA, Dana Moody of Raleigh, Scott and Beth Ann Moody of Valdosta, GA and Cody McMahan of Sylva, one sister, Bertha Chapman and a brother Tom Noland both of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Hazelwood Baptist Church with the Reverend Charles Dean officiating. Entombment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville. Members of Brock Sunday school class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Pallbearers will be Andy Beck, Max Palmer, Grady Stokes, Roy Haynes, Dan McMahan and Terry Caldwell. Memorials may be given to the Hazelwood Baptist Church at 265 Hazelwood Avenue Waynesville, NC 28786.
