Fred Murray

Robert Frederick Murray, age 83, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at the Hermitage House in Dillsboro. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Owen F. and Elza Mae Mease Murray. Fred was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Canton First Baptist Church. He was a fifty year member of the Sonoma Lodge #472 AF&AM and was a 32nd degree Scottish rite mason. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen Hudson Murray; one daughter, Vanessa Jeffery and her husband, Tommy, of Taylors, South Carolina; one son, Bob Murray and his wife, Julie, of Canton; one brother, Leroy Murray of Canton; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend James A. Meadows officiating. Inurnment will follow at New Cruso Cemetery with Masonic rites. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
