Clyde-Fred William ''Pa'' Taylor, age 91, of 190 Terrapin Place, died Sunday, March 2, 2003 at the home of his daughter.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Elden Eugene and Lula Thompson Taylor. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alma Jones Taylor, who died in 1986; a grandson, Eddie Allison; a great grandson, Lance Grasty; and several brothers and sisters. He was employed by Champion Papers as a roll dispatcher for 45 years before retiring in 1976. He was an auto racing and sports enthusiast as well as a nature lover and gardener. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church.
He is survived by five daughters, Sue Grasty, Kathy Whitaker, and her husband, Keith and granddaughter, Heidi, of the home, Betty Allison, and husband, Edwin, Ruth Medford, and her husband, Ray, and Elizabeth Barlow, all of Clyde; a son, Robert Taylor, and his wife, Hazel, of Clyde; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Alan Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2002 at the funeral home, and at other times, the family will be at the home. Pallbearers will be Fred Taylor, Marty Medford, Justin Belt, Nathan Jones, and Mike and Rodney Grasty. Thomas Teague will be an honorary pallbearer.
