Waynesville, Freda Fincher Jaynes, age 107 died Friday, September 3, 2010 at Haywood Regional Medical. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Della Trantham Fincher. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward "Keifer" Jaynes who died in 1970; son, Kenneth Jaynes, two sisters, Velma Morrow and Wilda Moore and two brothers, Kermit and Ernest Fincher. Freda retired in 1968 as a 3rd grade teacher at Junaluska Elementary School and was a longtime member of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church since 1921. She served Haywood Christian Ministries and the Haywood County Fair Board for 25 years, was a member of the Home Extension Club and Haywood County Agricultural Committee. She is survived by three sons and their wives, Edson and Doris Jaynes, Charles and Betty Jaynes and John and Catherine Jaynes, all of Waynesville; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Jaynes of Dandridge, TN; brother, Frosty Fincher and his wife Burr of Candler, NC; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church. Reverend Woody Adams, Reverend Chuck Wilson and Reverend Alan Mears will officiate. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Wells Funeral Homes of Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Christian Ministries, 150 Branner Avenue, Waynesville, NC 28786 or Long's Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 459, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745.
