Waynesville-Frederick Worth "Red" Chandler, age 83, of Hyatt Creek, passed away on Thursday, December 01, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was born in Madison County on April 9, 1922 to the late Reverend Sam and Mary Ann Watkins Chandler. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Laney Chandler, who passed away in September 2002. He was a member of Sulphur Springs Freewill Baptist Church and retired from Dayco Corporation. He was a US Army veteran having served in WWII. Survivors include two sons, Frederick "Buddy" W. Chandler Jr. and his wife, Melissa and Leslie Thomas "Tommy" Chandler and his wife, Darlene, both of Waynesville; two daughters, Ila Ruth Knight and her husband, Melburn, of Balsam and JoAnne Parris and her husband, Jerry, of Waynesville; a sister, Inis Sluder of Candler; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2005 at Green Valley Baptist Church with Reverend Elisha Fish and grandsons of Mr. Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in the Oxner Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
