Waynesville, Reverend G.W. Jameson, 88, of 1117 Oakdale Rd., Waynesville, NC, went home to be with His Lord and Savior, Monday, January 31, 2011 at his residence. A native of Habersham County, Georgia, he was preceded in death by his parents, S.Y. and Dessie Jameson; wife of 60 years, Lillie Sales Jameson; a brother, Otis Jameson; and one granddaughter, Jill Jameson Waddell. He was a member of Allens Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Grace M. Jameson. G. W. and his late wife, Lillie, were blessed with four children who also survive him: sons, Bill (Cindy) of Brevard, Charles (Pam) of Roan Mountain, Tennessee; two daughters, Sarah Jameson Haney (Buddy) of Sylva, and Linda Jameson Austin (Joe) of Candler; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; three brothers, Harold (Ruby), Paul Jameson (Betty) and Hoyt Jameson of Georgia; four sisters, Pearl Looney, Beatrice Slocum, Maggie Walters (Lamar), and Stella Ray (Perry) also of Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews; two step-sons, Keith Jordan of Waynesville and Edward Jordan (Lisa) of Canton; four step-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren. G. W. came to Haywood County in 1937 and worked at the Osborne Farm, Southern Dairies, Biltmore Farms, Skyland Dairies, and Enka Corporation. He felt the Lord's calling to preach and started his ministry at a tent revival with the late Reverend Bill Able and later was licensed and ordained by the West Canton Baptist Church in 1950. His first pastoral was at Woodland Baptist Church in Clyde. While serving as their pastor, he attended Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute and graduated on March 26, 1954. Experiencing growth during his ministry at Woodland, the church grew and built a new Sanctuary and Sunday School facility in new location. His second pastoral was in late l957 to Pole Creek Baptist Church in Candler for six years. This church also grew and relocated, building a new Sanctuary and Sunday School facilities. His third pastoral was at Barberville Baptist Church in late 1963 where he served as Senior Pastor for 21 years and witnessed another growth of 450 to 500 attendees in Sunday School requiring a building of new facilities. While pasturing there, The Barberville Choir, led by the late Clarence Shelton, recorded seven albums and several tapes, which were sent to churches in China's underground. He retired in 1983 for a brief time and came out of retirement to interim pastor a little brick and block church known as Dellwood Baptist Church on Dellwood Loop. While there, larger facilities were built for a congregation that grew during his ministry for the next 14 years. After another short retirement, he filled in as Associate Pastor for Pole Creek Baptist Church, did supply work at Bethel Baptist Church, and served as Interim Pastor for 17 months at Barberville Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and coon hunter and took many youth on camping trips and also traveled to the Holy Land. He helped dedicate the cross at Mt. Lynn Lowery along with Reverend Billy Graham, which was built in honor of General Myers' 16 year old daughter who had died from leukemia. He thoroughly enjoyed the Jameson apple butter gatherings in Roan Mountain, Tennessee. G. W. will be remembered for his ministry for all people, young, old, or middle aged. His life was a dedication of service that included weddings, baby dedications, and a multitude of visitations and funerals. Reverend G. W. Jameson will lie in state from noon until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. A celebration of life service will be held at Barberville Baptist Church on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Dennis Thurman officiating. Entombment will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Mausoleum. Serving as pallbearers will be Jody Austin, Steve Bowers, Jason Henson, Scott Jameson, Tommy Nash, Tim Waddell and Ricky Warren. Honorary Pallbearers will be Baptist Pastors, and Deacons of Woodland, Pole Creek, Barberville and Dellwood Baptist Churches. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Broyhill Baptist Children's Home, 111 Sneed Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
