Maggie Valley, Barbara "Gail" Jones Johnson, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at home with her family by her side.
A native of Florida and a resident of Maggie Valley since 1976, she was the daughter of the late Ladon James and Zama Lazelle Granger Jones; in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Johnson, who passed in 2009, her sister, Gloria Jones Hampton, and brother, Donnie Jones.
For 29 years, Gail worked at Realty World, what is now Better Homes, in Maggie Valley. More than a profession, it was a passion for Gail and an opportunity to serve her community through her work, highlighted by her partnership with her dear David to help clients realize their dreams from land acquisition through custom home construction.
Gail was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She cherished time with family, spending countless hours preparing delicious meals, going to an endless number of movies, time on the lake, listening to and singing Elvis tunes with the grandbabies, always present at every school or sports event, and supporting every school fundraiser from candles to cookie dough. Gail also had a special flair for fashion, home decor and a heart for giving and blessing others.
She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, enjoyed serving on mission trips and loved fellowshipping with her church family.
She is survived by her son, David "Todd" Johnson, of Asheville; and daughters, Lisa Gayle Johnson McMahan and her husband, Tim, of Knoxville, Tennessee and Tina Michele Johnson Webster, and her husband, Michael, of Waynesville; brother, Louis Jones and his wife, Pam, of Brentwood, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Ashlyn Jaynes (Tristan), Jonah McMahan (Melina), Abram McMahan, Rachel Daugherty(Trey), Sean Webster(Barbara), and Nate Webster(Cindy); and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
