Clyde, Gale Clare Livengood, age 80, of 554 Rockcliffe Lane, died on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at his residence in Crabtree. A native of Norwalk, OH, he had resided in Evanston, IL and moved to Haywood County in 1989. He was the son of the late Forrest and Ruth White Livengood. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Lynn Livengood. Gale served as a Lieutenant in the Army during the Korean Conflict and received the Purple Heart. He retired in 1988 as President of Home Vision, a subsidiary of Films, Inc., where he was employed for 33 years. He and his wife built and were innkeepers of WindSong A Mountain Inn and later WindDancers Lodge and Llama Treks. He was on the board of Fines Creek Community Association and the Tourism Development Authority. Gale had a life long interest and commitment to education and was actively involved in the formation of the Fines Creek Library. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Donna Munson Livengood; three daughters, Bobbi Lambert and husband, Hugh, of Cherokee, Jill Taylor and husband, Chip, of Derry, NH, and Sarah O'Connor and husband, Paul, of Cornelius, NC; three sons, Gregg Livengood and wife, Susan, of the Fines Creek Community, Chris Livengood and wife, Toni, of Anna, IL, and Matt Livengood and wife, Alayne, of Maple Valley, WA; 11 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. A memorial service will be held at Fines Creek Community Center on Sunday, February 10th at 2:00 p.m. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721 or Fines Creek Library, 678 South Haywood Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
