Garnett Blalock

Canton- Garnett Edwin Blalock - age 87, of 1254 Pisgah Drive, died Friday, April 7, 2006 at Magnolia Health Care in Asheville. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the son of the late Alma Blalock. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Nellie W. Blalock, who died in January of 2006. Mr. Blalock retired at the age of 53 with 23 years of service with Champion Papers and was a carpenter and a skilled cabinet maker. He was a World War II Army veteran. He is survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews and special niece and caregiver, Louise Rhodes and her husband, Jack. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, April 9, 2006 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with his nephew, Reverend Jerry Worley officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Charles, David and Ira Hyde, Bill Worley, Brandon Farmer and Marty Ledford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, Western Carolina Chapter, Mountain Region Office, 31 College Place, Ste D320.
