Gary Stamey

Gary George Stamey, age 46, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013, at Mission Hospitals – Memorial Campus. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of Neal Stamey of Canton and the late Shirley Rector Stamey. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Judy Wilena Ammons and Bobby Shuler. He was employed with the NC Department of Agriculture as an Animal Health Technician and was of the Methodist faith. Gary was raised on a farm and has always loved livestock. He showed cattle as a young man, worked and volunteered at cattle/ livestock youth shows, and was director of the livestock shows at the WNC Mountain State Fair. Gary was instrumental in many children's lives, helping them foster a love for animals. He was always smiling and lived life to the fullest. Gary also enjoyed fishing and golfing. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 21 years, Joy Shuler Stamey; brothers-in-law; Jamie Shuler and Carol of Hendersonville and Bobby Shuler and his wife, Sharon, of Fayetteville; nieces and nephews; Lucas Shuler of Hendersonville, Robert Marks and Crista Marks of Florida. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2013 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Donnie Henson and Reverend Paul Hensley officiating. Mr. Vance Muse, Gary's friend, will give the eulogy. Burial will follow at Long's Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jeff Delk, Justin Medford, Ron Stamey, Todd Norman, Jimmy Steppleton, Jeffrey Smathers, Tony McGaha, Tim Shepherd, and Brian Barnwell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any 4-H or FFA organizations or to Long's Community Cemetery Fund, 587 Evans Road, Canton, NC 28716.
