"In Loving Memory" Canton – Gene Etheridge Johnson, age 87, passed away Monday, November 2, 2015 at his residence. He was a son of the late Walter and Sarah Newman Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Johnson, and a brother, T.L. Johnson. Gene was a man who had many talents and was loved by all who knew him. He was a United States Navy veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Gene was an electronics technician with NASA and also within the paper mill industry. One of his major accolades was helping build NASA's first lunar landing modules. Some of his hobbies included watching football, playing golf, and during his retirement, working at the Antique Barn in Asheville. Gene was a man who loved life and lived it to the fullest! He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Frances Woody Johnson; two daughters, Glenna Woody Viereck of Hornbeck, Louisiana, and Kathi Lance and her husband, Gary, of Windsor, Missouri; two sons, Ronny Moore of League City, Texas, and Ron Johnson and his wife, Kathleen, of Melbourne, Florida; one sister, Brenda Coleman and her husband, Ed, of Tampa, Florida; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and several beloved nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2015 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend James Parham officiating and eulogy will be delivered by Thad Woody.
