Gene Mcclure

May 31, 1938 — March 15, 2003

Waynesville-Gene E. McClure, age 64, of 35 Arden Street, died Saturday, March 15, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late William McClure, Sr. and Dora Green McClure. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ada Mills and by two brothers, Fred McClure and William McClure, Jr.

He was a 1st Sergeant in the 210th MP Army National Guard in Sylva and retired after 42 years of service. He served in Desert Storm while attached to the 101th Airborne. He was a member of the American Legion Post 47 in Waynesville. He enjoyed coaching football, baseball, furniture making and hunting. He retired from the plastics department at Dayco after 30 years of service and was a member of Francis Cove United Methodist Church. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Curtis McClure; a daughter, Sandra McClure of Waynesville; two sons, Tony McClure and his wife Rebecca of Clyde, and Jimmy McClure and his wife Natalie of Waynesville; four sisters, Minnie Banks of Waynesville, Mary Lou Wright of Cruso, Charlene Towe of Windsor, Virginia and Nancy Plott of Young Harris, Georgia; a brother, Frank McClure of High Point, NC; five grandchildren, Dylan, Kristen and Kaylen McClure, Brea Evans, and Lance Corporal Dustin Evans, USMC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at the Francis Cove United Methodist Church. The Reverends Terry Rowland and Hal Finney will officiate. Burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Fort Bragg Memorial team. The 210th MP Army National Guard will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2003 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Francis Cove United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 843, Waynesville, NC 28786.
