Gene McLain Rogers, age 76, died Monday, November 3, 2008, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Ernest McLain and Lena Leatherwood Rogers. He was preceded in death by a son Stuart Rogers, who died in 1997 and a brother, Lewis Rogers. He was employed with the Haywood County Sheriff's office with over 40 years of service. He was a member of Clyde Central Untied Methodist Church. In 1953, Gene was co-founder of Haywood Tractor. He was a United States Air Force veteran serving in England during the Korean conflict He is survived by a son, Douglas Milton Rogers of Clyde; a daughter, Elizabeth Rogers McCracken of Clyde; three grandchildren; and a special dog "Banjo". A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2008, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Reverend Randy Tingle and Reverend John Lindsay officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
