Geneva Beckum

April 20, 1919 — December 29, 2011

A native of Horry County, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Thaddeus Kavanaugh "T.K." and Mattie Clara Tompkins Shackelford. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Olin V. Cooper; second husband, Kenneth B. Beckum; and one sister, Hazel Shackelford. She was former owner of Stuckey's located in Maggie Valley. Geneva had an affinity for all animals as well as her church Calvary Road Baptist. Geneva's most cherished possessions were her family and friendships. She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Louise Cooper, of Sanford, North Carolina; a son, Billy Vernon "B.V." Cooper and his wife, Shirley, of Savannah, Georgia; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Calvary Road Baptist Church with Reverend John H. Swanger, III, Reverend J.D. Grant and Reverend Wayne Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to Calvary Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 77 Sutton Loop, Waynesville, NC 28786.
