Geneva Melton

Waynesville-Geneva Eavenson Melton, age 84, of 334 East Marshall Street, died on August 1, 2006 at John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Harper H. and Addie Arrington Eavenson. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Davis and Emma Bialek; and three brothers, Tom, Jim, and Lester Eavenson. Mrs. Melton was a former employee at Sears and Unagusta Corporation, and she was a member of Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. Mrs. Melton enjoyed painting, basket weaving, crocheting, and working in her yard. Her real love and satisfaction was derived from making a loving home for her family. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Rufus Wilson Melton; four daughters, Mary Wanda Mann and husband, Willie Tom Mann, of Canton, Linda Sue Garris of Fort Mill, SC, Jeanette M. Hill and husband, J. Douglas Hill, of Durham, and Carol Elaine Melton Perkins and husband, Martin Perkins, Jr. of Charlotte; three sisters, Jean Gibson of TN, Lucille Rogers of Asheville, and Susie Kate Pressley of Ocala, FL; four grandchildren, Mary Lynn Stark, of Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, Ryan King of Asheville, Linda Collins Wood of Fort Mill, SC, and Lisa Ann Collins of Lancaster, SC; and three great grandchildren, Ashley Nichole Wood, Christopher Thomas Wood, and Ian Jamison King. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2006 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Brian Cornell officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
