Geneva Smart

Crabtree-Geneva Ross Smart, age 79, formerly of Rushfork Road, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and life-long resident of Haywood County, she was the oldest of ten children born to Roy Hobert Ross, Sr. and Amanda Henson Ross. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Davis Smart, who died in 1985; and a brother, Brown Worley Ross. She was a graduate of Brevard College and was a former employee of Dayco Corporation and a teacher's assistant at Waynesville Junior High School for 20 years. Her family indicated that her "fulltime job" was that of a farmer's wife. She enjoyed her role as caregiver to her parents and also delighted tending the cattle and especially the baby calves. She is survived by two sons, Donald Ross Smart and his wife, Sharon, and Joseph Timothy Smart and his wife, Kathy, all of Crabtree; four sisters, Clara Swanger and Ruby Boyd and her husband, Joe, of Waynesville, Louise Worley of Barnardsville, and Betty Buckner and her husband, Lloyd, of Etowah; four brothers, Roy H. Ross, Jr. and his wife, Ann, Taylor Ross and his wife, Dorothy, Ben Ross and his wife, Marie, and Ralph Ross and his wife, Barbara, all of Waynesville; a granddaughter, Sarah Kaitlyn Smart; and twin grandsons, Joseph Aaron and Jonathan Adam Smart. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at Crabtree United Methodist Church with Reverend Kathleen McAbee, Reverend Charles Simpson, and Reverend Dr. W.T. Medlin, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Crabtree Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
