Genevieve Roberts

Canton- Genevieve Howell Roberts, age 98, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Canton Christian Convalescent Center. She was a native of Buncombe County and the daughter of the late Lee and Nettie Justice Howell. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Roberts; a daughter, Carolyn Roberts Holcomb; and a son, Douglas H. Roberts; three sisters, Carrie Lee Nifong, Lynette Mastin, and Sadie Brookshire and a brother, Pat Howell. Genevieve was a member of Central United Methodist Church where she was very active and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed walking up into her 80s and all types of sports. She also volunteered with the Red Cross and worked at precincts during elections. She is survived by her two granddaughters, Amy Holcomb Trantham and her husband, Jeff and Cynthia Holcomb Sellinger and her husband, Howard, three great-grandchildren, Courtney Devlin, Brennan Trantham and Blake Trantham and son-in-law, Bobby E. Holcomb and his wife, Vicki. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2011 in the chapel at The Horizon Mausoleum at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Carrol Lindsey officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. at the residence of Bobby E. Holcomb and his wife, Vicki, # 2 Roberts Street, Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canton Central United Methodist Church Childrens Fund, 34 Church Street, Canton, NC 28716 or the American Red Cross, 1668 Brown Avenue, Waynesville, NC 28786.
