Genevieve Splitt

September 4, 1908 — June 20, 2006

Asheville-Genevieve Stesel Splitt, age 97, formerly of Waynesville, died on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at Deerfield Retirement Community. A native of Buffalo, NY, she resided in Waynesville from 1965 until moving to Deerfield Retirement Community. She was the daughter of the late George and Frances Gallagher Stesel. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Arthur Splitt, who died in 2004; two sisters, Frances Stout and Ruth Stickle; and a twin brother, George Stesel. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains. She was active with the Waynesville Duplicate Bridge Club and various garden clubs in New York and Waynesville. She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Keller and husband, Guy, of Charlotte, NC and Jane Welch and husband, Tim, of Waynesville; one son, Stephen Splitt and wife, Susan, of Athens, GA; a sister-in-law, Myrtice Mault, of CA; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Grace Church in the Mountains with Reverend Dr. Howard W. White, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Deerfield Retirement Community. Memorials may be made to Grace Church in the Mountains, 394 N. Haywood Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
