Cruso– George Washington Cogburn, age 85, of the Cruso community, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Bob and Nina Murphy Cogburn. George was a 1948 graduate of Bethel High School. He retired from Dayco in 1989 with 26 years of service and was an U.S. Army Veteran. George was a member of East Fork Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee, Deacon and Usher. He was a member of the Sonoma Masonic Lodge # 472 A. F. & A.M. George was a member of the Cruso Community Development Association and a member of the Haywood County Apple Growers Association. George will be remembered as a longtime Haywood County apple grower. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lou Anne Cogburn of Canton; a daughter, Georganna Cogburn Adams and her husband, Scott, of Asheville; a son, Gary Cogburn of Cleveland, NC and two grandchildren, Molly and Robby Cogburn. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at East Fork Baptist Church with Reverend Chan Chandler, Reverend Davis Whiteside and Brother Bob Burris officiating. Burial will be at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
