George Glance Jr.

Waynesville, George Oliver Glance Jr., age 68, of Ormond Beach, FL passed on to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 6, 2008. Born June 25, 1939 in Franklin, NC, George affectionately known to many as "Bud," spent most of his first 40 years in Haywood County, NC. As a state licensed general contractor, developer, and entrepreneur, George owned and operated construction, paving, and excavating companies. He also owned several small businesses which included a men's and women's clothing store, gas stations, and car washes. His love for the Florida sunshine and his sense of adventure prompted him to begin purchasing property in the Central Florida area in the late 1960's. It began with an orange grove, which now serves as the entrance to Zellwood Station in Zellwood, FL and expanded into housing developments and beachside condominiums. Owning and developing properties in both Western North Carolina and Central Florida for the next 20 years, George and family eventually moved to Ormond Beach, FL in 1980. George continued his building business in Ormond Beach until an early retirement enabled he and his wife Becky to travel throughout the United States, Canada, and parts of Europe. George's zest for life and love for his family led to unforgettable times together which always included fun-filled family trips and wonderful vacation destinations. One such trip found George and his family venturing to Walt Disney World in Orlando during its inaugural year in 1972. A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, George was always a generous provider for his family. A member of Tomoka Christian Church, George is now gone to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Burgin Glance; daughter, Stephanie, of Raleigh, NC, son, George III, and his wife, Jane and grandchildren, Oliver, Ted, Macy, and Josie Beth of Mt. Dora, Fl; two sisters, Sue Hogue of Chapel Hill, NC; and Sharon Lambeth of St. Petersburg, FL and one brother, Larry Glance of Lake Mary, Fl. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with G.W. Jameson officiating. Internment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice Care at Florida Hospital Oceanside, 264 South Atlantic Avenue, Ormond Beach, FL 32176 or to Tomoka Christain Church, 1151 West Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach, FL. 32174. We would like to thank our many wonderful family members and friends for their love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. A special thank you also goes to Dr. Diego Torres and his staff for their great care and concern for George and his family.
