George Goodson

February 7, 1926 — June 19, 2007

Waynesville-George Theodore "Buck" Goodson, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at the VA Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Jule Newton Goodson and Della Davis Goodson Rhinehart. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, James Newton Goodson. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was an employee of GTE Telephone Company and worked as a telephone installer for 23 years before his retirement in 1984. Buck was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed fishing with his friend Junior Davis. His last fishing trip was Fathers' Day 2006 to Lake Tomahawk with his daughters Nancy and Kathy. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Ruby Goodson; four daughters, Kathy Stewart and Nancy Backman, both of Clyde, Sue Ellen Hopper of Baton Rouge, LA, and Edith Nations of Boone, NC; one son, Ronnie Goodson of Kings Mountain, NC; one sister, Ruth Lane; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2007 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend David Teague and Reverend Bruce Cayton officiating. Burial will follow at Fulbright Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
