"1922 -2015" Canton – George Frederick Loomis, age 93, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 at The Homestead. A native of Watertown, Connecticut and a resident of Haywood County since, 2011, he was a son of the late William P. and Alice Newbury Loomis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane L. Loomis, who died in 2002, and his second wife, Millicent R. Loomis, who died in 2011. He was a graduate of Watertown High School in 1941. Mr. Loomis served his country in World War II in the United States Army, being deployed to Northern Africa and the European Theater of Operation as a member of the 350th Infantry. He was a manufacturer's representative and co-owner of Eastern Plastics of Plainville, Connecticut. George was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Watertown, Connecticut. He was a talented stone mason and enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Debra and Peter Tauber of Wellington, Florida, and Wendy and David Riggs of Canton; one son and his wife, Scott and Karen Loomis of Morris, Connecticut; four grandchildren, Amanda Tonkin, Kate Baldwin, Amy Stiles, and Kelly White; four great-grandchildren, Tommy and Abby Baldwin, Jackson Stiles, and Eli White; and his beloved beagle, Maddie. The family wishes to acknowledge and gratefully thank Haywood Regional Home Care Services and Julie Polen for the compassionate care provided to Mr. Loomis. A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2016 in Watertown, Connecticut.
