George Lozaw

Maggie Valley, George Ellsworth "Pops" Lozaw, age 77, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2011 at Medwest-Haywood Medical Center. A native of New Jersey, he had previously lived in Hope Mills, North Carolina before moving to Haywood County 11 years ago. He was the son of the late Wallace and Eleanor Beach Lozaw and was also preceded in death by a son, Rusty Lozaw; granddaughter Brandi Lozaw and two brothers, Wallace and Raymond Lozaw. He was a US Army veteran and retired from Parsippany Board of Education as a Custodian. George will always be remembered for his loving and caring spirit toward his family and friends. George loved to cook and was well known for "feeding an army" and no one ever left his home hungry. He enjoyed whistling and collecting frogs. George will be deeply missed by all his friends and family most of all his beloved wife, Susan. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Susan Ann Lozaw; four sons, Stephen Lozaw and his wife, Joanne, of Mt. Tabor, New Jersey, Richard Lozaw of Hopatcong, New Jersey, Kenneth Thorne and his wife, Helen, of Parkton, North Carolina and Edward Thorne and his wife, Emily, of Parkton, North Carolina; four daughters, Lucille Lozaw of West Virginia, Debbie Wolfe and her husband, Mark, of Missouri, Sherry Fritz and her husband, Terry, of Parkton, NC and Darlene Brady and her husband, Sam, of Cumming, Georgia; 22 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; his special companion beagle, lab mix "Lil Girl"; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend John C. Waters officiating and military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in George's memory to Alpharetta Church of God, 1460 Mid Broadwell Road, Alpharetta, Georgia 30004.
