George Mitchell

Waynesville, George David Mitchell, age 82, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020 at Haywood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Norman and Georgia Davis Mitchell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Mitchell and a sister, Sally Inman.  George retired from North Carolina Department of Transportation as a Highway Inspector with 40+ years of service.  He was a member of Louisa Chapel and enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening and working, however his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pauline Underwood Mitchell; son, David Mitchell (Teresa); three sisters, Katie Nelson, Mary Henson and Beverly Butner; brother, James (Buggsy) Mitchell; three grandchildren, Tiffany Hill (David), Angela Sanford (Rocky) and Braden Hale; and three great-grandchildren, Blainlee, Gandon and Bella.

Private services were held at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with Reverend Marvin Rogers officiating.
