George Nesmith

Fines Creek Community, George Leroy Nesmith, age 68, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Mission Memorial Campus.

A native of Florida, he was a son of the late George Washington and Adelaide Black Nesmith.  George proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp and was a member of Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church.  George was the patriarch of his family.  He was strong, filled with love and always willing to lend a helping hand.  In the spring and summer, George was busy in the garden tending to his vegetables.  He was known for his delicious beans at all the church gatherings.

George is survived by his wife of 20 years, Marilyn S. Nesmith; two daughters, Ginger Angel and her husband, Chad, of Asheville and Kristen Nesmith, of Polk County; son, George Leroy Nesmith, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Fines Creek; two sisters, Lole McMillian, of Florida and Bernadette Starling, of Asheville; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend Daniel Sprinkle and Reverend Jimmy Moore officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials made be made to Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church, Pantry Fund, 1128 Max Patch Road, Clyde, NC 28721.

The care of Mr. Nesmith has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
