George Richard Owenby, a notable man of Fairview, North Carolina, unexpectedly passed away at his home on February 11, 2025. Born on March 1, 1947, in Bat Cave, North Carolina, George was a true original, known for his love for his farm animals, and was described as the real McCoy. He possessed a stoic demeanor complemented by an infectious sense of humor.

 

A proud Army Veteran, George dedicated his life to serving his country and instilled values of hard work and integrity in his family. He was an avid outdoorsman who found immense beauty in his family property and home, often cherishing moments spent in nature. His deep appreciation for the great outdoors reflected his love for life and the world around him.

 

Over the years, George's most treasured role was that of a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his beloved wife Beverly Owenby, with whom he shared 43 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a loving family that included their sons, Jason Andrew Owenby and Marvin Justin Owenby. George took immense pride in being a grandfather to four grandchildren: Taylor Marie, Jason Andrew Jr., Blake Andrew, and Grady Benjamin, as well as a great-grandfather to Tate Dylan.

 

He is also survived by his sister, Marylin Ledford with her husband Larry, who will carry forward his memory. George is preceded in death by his parents, Andy Claude Owenby and Pearlean Freemen Owenby, along with three brothers and three sisters.

 

George Richard Owenby will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, humor, and strength will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends.

 

Per George’s wishes, a private family ceremony will take place.

 

The care of Mr. Owenby has been entrusted with Wells Funeral Home of Candler, NC.
