Clyde, Reverend George Douglas Plemmons, age 85, of 304 Justice Drive, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at MedWest Haywood Regional Medical Center A native Haywood County, he was the son of the late William Bryan and Martha Mull Plemmons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Maggie Mills, and two brothers, Bill and Houston Plemmons. He was a former employee of the A.C. Lawrence Leather Company for 40 years and later retired from the Haywood County Solid Waste Department. He was an ordained Free Will Baptist minister and served several churches in Jackson County and was pastor of Rocky Branch Baptist Church for 43 years of which he was a member. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sally Fulbright Plemmons; three sons, Robert Plemmons and his wife, Wanda, Doug Plemmons and his wife, Helen, and Richard Plemmons and his wife, Tina, all of Clyde; four daughters, Doris Griffin and Martha Jane Wyatt and her husband, Frank, of Waynesville and Mary Joe Lewis and her husband, Ernest, and Shirley Cagle, of Clyde; two sisters, Altha Smith of Balsam and Lucille Wood of Waynesville; two brothers, Jim Plemmons of West Virginia and Doyle Plemmons of Waynesville; twelve grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Neil Roland and Reverend Frank Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
